The Jing tonic herbs in Primal Essence are revered for their qualities of promoting longevity, virility, strengthening the reproductive functions, and improving libido in both men and women.

They are renowned for their beautifying effects and contentedness, they strengthen the skeletal framework, the lower back, the legs, the knees and ankles, and all the joints in the body. They provide deep energy and store additional vitality for future use.

What is Jing?

Taoist masters recognized Jing as the powerful substance that forms the essence of who and what we are as human beings.

Jing is the primal energy of our individual life force, the principal quality which activates our creative, sexual and reproductive potential. Jing is held within the kidneys, and it is this energy that determines a person’s ultimate vitality, and the length and quality of their lifespan.

Jing is a precious, fundamental treasure that needs to be protected, nourished and preserved. Individuals tend to ‘leak’ Jing when they become stressed, overworked, or burn the candle at both ends.

Tonic herbs help to replenish and restore Jing and nurture individual health at its most vital root. Jing is a quality which accumulates over time, and with regular use of Primal Essence, one may expect to feel a positive difference in body, mind, and spirit.

Primal Essence contains seven of the greatest Jing tonic herbs from the Chinese herbal system of medicine. There are two primary branches of Jing herbs, which correspond to the forces of Yin and Yang. Both principles of the Yin and Yang Jing herbs tend to penetrate deeply into our life force and support the root of our vitality and longevity. When our Yin and Yang Jing energy is strong we can flourish as a person and embody our true self. We can be full of energy, creative, high in spirit and strong-minded.

Primal Tonic Herb Blend Yin Jing

The 'Yin Jing' Tonic Herbs

Yin is defined as the cyclic rhythm of nature in which energy is being accumulated, assimilated and stored for later use. Those herbs that replenish spent energy are referred to as the Yin Jing herbs. These highly nutritious herbs help us recuperate and nurture the fundamental reserves of the body, mind, and spirit. The Yin Jing herbs have a nourishing, moistening, cooling and anti-inflammatory nature. They accumulate and store Jing in the Kidneys. They build up vitality, revitalize youth, enhance fertility and help to increase the sexual fluids. Yin Jing herbs work to strengthen the lower back, the legs, the ankles and the knees and all the joints in the body. They promote healthy nails, return hair to its natural color, fortify mind clarity and acuity, brighten the eyes, support healthy hormone balance, and counteract stress.

Prepared He Shou Wu Root

He Shou Wu is one of the most popular and highly revered tonic herbs in Asian herbalism. Its youthfulness, healthy aging and longevity agents are simply unsurpassed by any other herb. It is one of the most effective restorative herbs and is a powerful battery charger that replenishes deep primordial energy (Jing) to the body. It’s the perfect superfood for athletes and hard physical workers who want to recover faster. He Shou Wu supports the kidneys and liver, improves libido, boosts antioxidants, feeds the skin and hair, and helps maintain youthfulness.

He Shou Wu is one of the most powerful Yin restorative herbs that replenishes and boosts Jing energy to the cells of the body. He Shou Wu is widely used as a tonic to prevent rapid aging. It’s a remarkable tonic for building and cleansing the blood and nourishing the skin. He Shou Wu is a good source of iron and zinc. Zinc is an essential trace mineral required by all forms of life. We know that zinc plays a very important role in our growth and development, immune potential, brain power, libido, and many other functions in the body.

Prolonged use of this herb is said to turn one’s grey hair back to its original color. This is He Shou Wu’s most famous attribute and is widely used in China today for this reason. It is known to help the hair grow fuller and more illustrious. Consistent use of He Shou Wu promotes sound sleep, boosts libido, strengthens the lower back, the knees, and the ankles, increases antioxidant activity, and stimulates the thymus gland, the endocrine gland responsible for producing the "super antioxidant" enzyme SOD.

Prepared Rehmannia

Rehmannia is referred to as the “Kidney’s own food.” This Yin Jing herb is often considered a primary herb for longevity.

There are two forms of Rehmannia used in Chinese herbalism: raw Rehmannia and prepared Rehmannia. Raw Rehmannia has just been dried and is not considered a tonic in Chinese herbalism. Prepared Rehmannia is highly tonic. It is prepared and cooked using a secret proprietary recipe by soaking in a special blend of wine, then steamed and dried under the sun. It is a sticky jet-black colored herb that tastes sweet. In Chinese medicine, foods that are black nourish the Kidneys because they contain high levels of zinc that correlate with our Kidney functions, reproductive functions, and the overall Jing functions in our body.

Rehmannia is a fundamental Kidney tonic and profound blood builder, making it important for women’s health who need to rebuild blood regularly. It is said to tone up the sexual functions in both men and women, restore youth, promote sleep, improve cracked nails and can return natural pigment to the hair.

Goji Berry

Lycium is a Yin Jing and blood tonic herb, most often referred to as “Goji” (sometimes called Wolfberry or Lichi berry). It is a small, tasty, red berry that is considered one of the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet. It nourishes and tonifies the Yin Jing functions of the kidneys, supports the liver, and builds blood.

Lycium is a superb liver tonic. It has the highest source of carotenoids of any foods known. Lycium cleanses the liver as the carotenoids are transformed into Vitamin A in the liver, which is said to be beneficial for skin health, brighten the eyes and improve vision.

Lycium has long been famed as a longevity superfood, producing in studies a 48% increase of SOD (superoxide dismutase), our body’s most important antioxidant enzyme. It is high in polysaccharides which provide increased immune support and they are powerful cellular anti-oxidants, effectively slowing down aging.

Goji is also high in Vitamin C, is a rich source of the B-vitamins - B1 and B2, it contains eighteen kinds of amino acids and numerous trace minerals - zinc, iron, and copper. It also contains significant amounts of calcium, germanium, selenium, and phosphorus, and many flavonoids which protect cell membranes due to their antioxidant activity

Because it is a Yin Jing herb it also strengthens the legs, the lower back, and the sexual functions. Li Ching Yuen, the oldest living man on record, who lived to be 252 years old, made Goji famous by attributing the strength of his legs to this herb. He attributed He Shou Wu to his first hundred years of longevity and Lycium to his last hundred years!

It is said that with consistent consumption of Lycium it will promote cheerfulness, keep you vital, and brighten the spirit. Regular use of this herb will allow you to lead a long and happy life. It is said in China that a handful of Goji berries a day will keep you smiling for the entire day and with regular daily practice, it will keep you smiling for the length of your life.

Goji is a great introductory herb to tonic herbalism because being one of the most popular and more delicious herbs, it is one of the easiest herbs to get into and consume as a tea or even as a snack. Lycium refers to "school of learning” and for that reason, Goji is regarded as being an educational herb. It is a herb that you can easily get started with and it will help you develop a better understanding of the superior class of tonic herbs.

The 'Yang Jing' Tonic Herbs

Yang is defined as the cyclic rhythm of nature in which energy is being expended in order to create a manifest action. Yang is associated with action, expansion, and movement. These herbs provide immediate deep energy and work to supplement and protect the Yin Jing. The Yang Jing herbs have an activating, drying, warm or hot nature. These herbs quickly build strength, enhance endurance, sexual vitality, structural support and bone density, and one’s ability to complete feats of great exertion. The Yang stimulates our fire functions of the Kidney which improves digestion and elimination. The Kidney Yang is what keeps the body warm and it generates action and movement in the body. This Yang energy gives us the drive and power to feel motivated, inspired, to be creative and to manifest our thoughts and desires and attract the things that we want in our lives.

Morinda Root

Morinda is called the “strength builder”. It is the root of the Noni plant but tastes pleasant and sweet. It is a highly nutritious and mildly Yang Jing tonic herb that strengthens the body and increases libido in both men and women. It is used for impotence, premature ejaculation, infertility, and to relieve lower back and knee pain.

Morinda is widely believed to increase mental power and support the heart. It is one of the most important vitalizing herbs of the tonic system. It is excellent for athletes and martial artists because it is useful for endurance, bone density, and general strength. It is considered a major longevity herb and is extremely well tolerated by almost everyone.

Cistanche has been used for over 1800 years. It is a Yang Jing herb that is regarded as a tonic of the highest order. It has a warm energy and a desirably sweet and salty flavor. It nourishes the Chi of the large intestines which helps digestion, elimination, and healthy colon function.

Cistanche is one of the more popular, and more potent herbs for increasing the sexual functions in both men and women. Cistanche increases both the flow of Yang energy and blood to the genitals. It is comically referred to in the U.S. as “Cistanche in your pants.” It has been said that those that take Cistanche for more than a few weeks notice their sexual prowess increase noticeably.

Since Cistanche nourishes the Yang of the Kidneys, it tends to strengthen libido and increase our personal drive, willpower, creativity, and the clarity and power of our thought. These are all functions that are governed by the Yang of the Kidneys.

Youthfulness is associated with vitality and a strong libido. Libido, or sexual energy, is also creative energy. We can choose to use our libido in a sexual manner or we can choose to channel that energy into other creative outlets. We can use it to manifest our desires, live our dreams and attract the things that we want in our lives. This energy gives us the power to feel motivated, to take charge, to tackle our list of goals and inspire action. When our Yin and Yang energy is strong we can flourish as a person and embody our true self. We can be full of energy, creative, high in spirit and strong-minded. We believe in ourselves and feel confident in the world.

Cordyceps sinensis mushroom

Cordyceps mushroom (Cordyceps sinensis) has a long history of use as a longevity promoting and life-enhancing superfood. Its broad range of benefits include being a superb athlete's tonic for building physical strength and power, increasing vitality and mental energy, and boosting immunity and libido. Teelixir Cordyceps mushroom is 100% vegan.

According to the written record, Cordyceps has been used for over a thousand years in China and Tibet. It is one of the superstars in Chinese tonic herbalism. It has a powerful balance of both Yin and Yang energy and is therefore well tolerated by everyone and is safe to use over a long period of time.

Wild Cordyceps are so rare, potent, and highly regarded that they’re worth more per ounce than gold. They are one of the most expensive herbs in the world, fetching in excess of $10,000 USD per kilogram. In ancient times, wild Cordyceps was so highly prized and valued by the emperor that they were illegal to possess if you did not belong to the ruling class. The emperor understood how valuable this herb was to be as an overall life-enhancing and anti-aging agent. Today, modern “fermentation” technology has allowed us to grow cultivated Cordyceps at a far cheaper cost. Studies have shown that the cultivated variety shares all the same benefits and nutritional profile as wild Cordyceps and is just as potent and efficacious.

Cordyceps is a potent Lung and Kidney Jing tonic that is known to increase brain power and strengthen the structural integrity of the body–the lower back, the knees, and the ankles. Cordyceps is highly revered by athletes for its ability to greatly improve performance, build physical power and strength, increase endurance, stamina and promote fast recovery.

Cordyceps mushroom was first made famous in the West back in 1993 when the Chinese women’s Olympic track and field team broke multiple world records. It was later found out that they were using a secret formula during their vigorous training program where Cordyceps mushroom was the main ingredient.

Cordyceps is one of the best sexual tonics that is commonly used for impotence, sexual malaise, and frigidity. It’s a superb Liver tonic that increases vitality and mental energy. Its high polysaccharide (beta-glucans) content is what possesses Cordyceps with its potent immune-supportive power. Overall, Cordyceps is an extremely effective and powerful life-enhancing agent.

Eucommia Bark

Eucommia has the distinction of being the first herb listed in the first known pharmacopeia in the world written by Shen Nong, the Divine Farmer, in 2975 B.C. He classified the herb as being an overall tonic for well-being and endurance, as well as helping to maintain bone density, ligament and tendon strength, and flexibility.

Eucommia is a superb Yang Jing tonic (also a Yin Jing tonic to a lesser degree). It is renowned for its ability to support the endocrine system and sexual functions, to enhance normal growth, to promote healing and to strengthen the back, (especially the lower back), joints, knees and ankles and the entire physical structure of the body. It is favored by athletes, martial artists, yoga and Qi Gong practitioners, menopausal women and those recovering from bone injury or tissue damage due to stress, age or trauma.

Eucommia is most famous for its Kidney tonifying effects and is considered an important herb for improving potency in men and fertility in women.

Check out our favourite Jing pudding recipe which features Primal Essence.

How are the herbs processed?

The tonic herb extracts in Primal Essence are all processed using water only. No added grains, fillers, preservatives, salt, sugar, or starch.

Where are the herbs sourced?

The seven tonic herbs in Primal Essence are either sustainably wildcrafted, mycelium liquid fermented in tanks, or organically (semi-wild) cultivated, with respect to, and abiding by the fundamental concept of "Di Tao” sourcing in Chinese herbalism. Di Tao means “Earth Tao” or in Chinese, “authentic source.” All these mushrooms come directly from their original growing source, the pristine high mountain ranges of China, far from any cities or industrial pollution.

Wildcrafted: Eucommia bark.

Liquid fermented mycelium: Cordyceps mushroom.

Semi-wild and organically cultivated (Non-GMO) fruiting bodies: He Shou Wu, Prepared Rehmannia, Morinda, and Cistanche.

What is "semi-wild” cultivation?

"Semi-wild" herbs are grown from seed then placed into a natural environment (a mountain forest or a desert, for example) and allowed to grow naturally without human interference. The "semi-wild" cultivation process simulates the wild herbs growing conditions where it can accumulate food and energy naturally. This method produces tonic herbs with a chemical profile closely similar to the wild material and is often better than the organically cultivated varieties.

What is wildcrafted?

Many of our tonic herbs are sustainably harvested directly from the wild environments in which they naturally grow in without human interference or cultivation.

When can I expect to see results?

Everyone is different depending on the level of health they are experiencing. In some cases, the benefits of our products may be felt instantaneous while others may experience subtle influences at first and notice cumulative effects developing over time. For great results we recommend consuming one or more of our products regularly for at least 30-100 days.
